Got Game Sports, founded by entrepreneur Korey Kalman (known to most as Coach K), had grown into one of LA’s leading youth day camps with sites across California and a new footprint in Colorado. But with operations expanding and hundreds of seasonal staff to manage, Coach K was doing it all, while living in another state. He needed help.

He came to CampHire looking for an Operations Coordinator, someone to keep things moving on the ground. But after a few early calls, it was clear the business needed more. We partnered with him to redefine the position, scope out what was truly needed, and shape a role that would attract a senior-level operator. That’s how the VP of Operations position was born.

The Search

The right candidate had to do more than run logistics. They needed to oversee multi-site operations, build out internal systems, manage staff pipelines, and serve as a strategic partner to Coach K. They also had to live in LA and be ready to lead in person.

We launched a targeted search focused on leaders who had scaled youth programs, worked with seasonal teams, and understood both the business and people sides of operations. Plenty of talented resumes came in but few had the experience to match the ambition.

Then we found Scott Hicok. He had led operations at one of the country’s largest youth enrichment providers, built teams, developed infrastructure, and managed complex programs. He was calm under pressure, deeply experienced, and based in Los Angeles.

The Hire

To help Scott see the opportunity, we worked with Coach K to outline a full internal overview of the business—everything from revenue to hiring goals. When they met, the conversation quickly turned into a working session. They aligned on systems, org charts, and how to move forward.

Two weeks later, Scott accepted the offer. Since stepping into the role, he’s built systems, hired key talent, and taken pressure off Coach K, allowing the business to grow without losing quality.
